"Jason Shawn Alexander has always been one of the most original artists in comics, but with Empty Zone, he shows he’s one of our most unique writers, too. What a gorgeous book.”

Empty Zone is…

Jason Shawn Alexander’s critically acclaimed creator owned comic series published by IMAGE Comics beginning in 2014.  Originally created by Alexander in 1994. Part 1 of the series consists of 3 arcs titled, Empty Zone-Conversations with the Dead, Industrial Smile, and Broken Circle spanning the first 15 issues. This emotional, frightening, and inventive series focuses on the life of it’s downtrodden female protagonist, Corinne White. Corinne’s mistakes, leading to the the death’s of her closest friends and fellow soldiers, have placed her drowning in regret, at rock bottom, in the “low town” of Pittsburgh in the year 2085. 10 years after a rogue solar flare, acting as an EMT, essentially wiped power and electricity off the planet for 3 years. The world is still recovering as she, acting a street level mercenary and data courier, has not.

Through the actions of a power hungry megalomaniac who’s building an army of the dead as a first step in his even greater aspirations involving the supernatural, Corinne is confronted by the ghosts of her past… literally. To receive the much needed forgiveness of her fallen comrades and lover, and regain a sibilance of the humanity she’s lost, she will track down the megalomaniac, destroying his “frankenstein” facilities here in the states, then Germany (which introduces a world of problems all it’s own) and finally to his home base in the technological utopia, unfazed by the global black out, of Africa.

Empty Zone breaks new ground as a supernatural horror, cyberpunk series. It introduces us to a futuristic gangland where colors and tattoos have been replaced with animal implants and street level skin grafts, gothic creatures of fiction brought horribly to life through advancements in genetic experimentation, and finally, horrors beyond anything man made.
